I've been learning a lot from all the interviewing I've been doing lately. It's one of the upsides of being a general assignment reporter. You develop just enough information about a variety of topics to be great at cocktail parties. But beyond the knowledge acquisition, there's a social benefit. The interviews have allowed me to meet new people and reconnect with existing contacts. I've also been able to interview friends as experts, which allows me to see them through a new lens. It's all very energizing.

Have you chatted with someone new or someone you already know in a new way this week? If not, get out there! Reach out to someone different when you've got a question or a problem. Dare to call a national expert for input on a project. Ask a friend what they're working on and how you can help. Connect. You'll learn something and you'll strengthen your social fabric!
