I’ve posted here a recently about readability requirements and how many of the standard formulas actually make writing worse.
Earlier this week, Steve and I were discussing the challenges of working with the Flesch-Kincaid formula. Now, I come to that discussion as a life-long writer – and one who manages to make a living that way. Steve, also shares that point of view, but as a literacy expert (see his “other life” at www.ttms.org), he has a more academic perspective, as well.
The result of our discussion is this whitepaper on readability, the traits of good writing and how formulae don’t really support either.
