When I lived in Hollywood, I used to go to karaoke in the upstairs lounge of a random Chinese restaurant, hosted by a guitar-playing drag queen from Detroit. (Wonder whatever happened to Erica Valentine). Contrary to what you might think, the venue wasn't in LA-proper. It was incongruously situated in the cute foothills town of Montrose.
Montrose has been in the news lately because of huge mudslides thanks to the impact of a heavy rainy season on barren hillsides scorched by last summer's wildfires. I'm keeping the little town in my thoughts, rekindled by this spotlight article I wrote for the LA Business Journal:
Sleepy retail community wakens to idea of big stores.
Be safe, Montrose-ians!
