I enjoyed reading this article by Tamara Monosoff in Entrepreneur mag on getting the most from your advisors. As a consultant, it’s my job to help clients solve problems, become more effective and make better decisions. But that doesn’t mean that everything I say goes. In fact, the best relationships are those that involve a lot of give and take between consultant and client – not edicts from the outside “know-it-all”. No matter what I might think, the business we’re talking about it yours, not mine. You get to make the final call because you’ll have to work with the results.
A good consultant will offer his or her best advice, and will push when possible for his/her suggestions. But the best consultants know the business owner owns the decision because s/he owns the business.
