Gave an encore presentation at Durham Tech last night through its Small Business Center. Great group of small business owners came out to learn about writing short for social media. But we covered sooooo much more than that and it was great fun.

Writing short is hard, in part because most of us were trained in school to stretch out our writing to fill those pesky arbitrary page or word counts our teachers gave us. There was no value on writing tight copy unless you were on the school paper, and even then...

So a whole bunch of us aren't good at it. The good news is, we can be! I based this deck on a strategy developed by Steve Peha, my husband and founder of Teaching That Makes Sense, Inc. He built it for use with K-12 kids, so us adults can easily master it. The cool thing is that it makes writing short a piece of cake, even for the most verbose of us.
