Back in the saddle after spending the weekend in Detroit at FastTrac to the Future. We had such a great time sharing our thoughts on social media with 250 people. Since 500 were signed up to attend the event, that means that half the folks their elected to come to our session. We were THRILLED!

Just like last month, we met incredible people who’re focused on the future and getting Southeast Michigan’s economy back on track with new businesses and industries. These folks are ready to make things happen, and I have to tell you it’s very uplifting to be around them.

All the stories you read about doom and gloom up there are true. Unemployment was 17.1 percent last month and many neighborhoods have been decimated by foreclosures. Things are dire. But it’s not all bad news. I just wish more reporters would tell the story of people we’ve been meeting – the entrepreneurs and service providers who’re bootstrapping new businesses and trying to rise up from the ashes. These people are going to turn that place around and Steve and I feel lucky to be a tiny part of the effort.

That said, we’re working on a couple of proposals to do more work in the Motor City as it rebuilds and reinvents itself. Stay tuned! In the meantime, we’re making a few updates to our presentation in preparation for our final appearance at the August 18 event.

We’re also working on a few other projects this week:

• I’m writing a whitepaper on airport cities for the Kenan-Flagler Business School here at UNC, and two job-search stories for

• Steve and I are working up a proposal for potential client detailing how to use social media to attract more young people to entrepreneurial events. We’re also creating a new writing class for entrepreneurs to add to our workshop line-up.

• Steve’s pulling together another op-ed on education issues for the Carrboro Citizen.

• Carolyn is working on articles about alternative therapies for pets and the local dog catcher for the Carrboro Citizen’s Pets special section.

Yikes! I’d better get back to the Factory floor. Have a great week!
