There are days, like today, when I'm not feeling very inspired as a writer. It's not writer's block -- I can definitely get started. I'm just feeling like I'm lacking a little je ne sais quoi. Flair, perhaps?
So I decided to go back and look at some other people's work that made me go, "wow". Here's what I turned to (the original pieces and what makes them good to me):
- Tom Junod's "Hillary. Happy." from Esquire.
- Tad Friend's "First Banana" from The New Yorker.
- Seth Godin's excellent rejection letter.
- Allan Sloan's "How Washington is Destroying the Economy" from Fortune.
After looking over these pieces and what made me dig them in the first place, I'm ready to tackle my writing for the day. Hope they give you some inspiration, too!
